Sonoma Valley Homes for Sale

Sonoma Creek drains the western slopes of the Mayacamas Range and the eastern slopes of the Sonoma Mountain. Cutting through the vineyards of Kenwood, Glen Ellen and Boyes Hot Springs, Sonoma Creek flows through the city of Sonoma as an urban creek, which then emerges into the agricultural areas to the south, discharging into the Napa-Sonoma Marsh at the northern part of San Pablo Bay.

Indigenous peoples called the Sonoma Valley home for at least 12,000 years before the arrival of the Spanish missionaries in the early 19th century. It is estimated that as many as 5,000 Native Americans lived in what is now Sonoma County prior to the arrival of the Europeans. The local tribes included the Pomo, Coast Miwok and Wappo.

In 1823, Mission San Francisco Solano de Sonoma was created as the only California mission built after Mexico achieved its independence and is the northernmost and last of the 21 missions established the Franciscans.

Today the Sonoma Valley produces a wide range of wine grapes, dramatic contrasts of terrain, and the longest history of any wine-growing region in Sonoma County.
