About the North Bay

Across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco lies Marin County, known for its amazing natural beauty, liberal politics and eclectic communities. With a mild Mediterranean climate, incredible open hills and mountains and bordering both the bay and the ocean, it has a magical draw. Having fought off big developers, about 75% of Marin County is now permanently protected in a network of national, state, county and regional parks, along with conservation easements on many of the agricultural properties. Marin’s population is stabilized under 300,000 with a very high ranking quality of life. The well educated, affluent and engaged residents value their villages, towns and neighborhoods.

North lies Sonoma County, the birthplace of California’s wine industry. It boast over 370 wineries and 500 eateries in a farm-to-table paradise. Some residents grow their own produce and raise their own meats. Many source much of their fresh food locally. Residents love hiking the redwoods, paddling the coast, or just sitting and enjoy the sounds of nature. Others enjoy the charm and histories of its cities. Sonoma living involves a quest for both environmental sustainability and economic affordability.

Both Counties boast miles of sand dunes, rugged cliffs and scenic viewpoints for whale watching and exploring. A cyclist’s paradise with 1,400 miles of country roads and off-road trails the North Bay also draws golfers, riders, kayakers, balloonists, hikers and foodies.
